Vintage 1972 Citroen HY Food/Coffee Truck
Rare find. This 1972 Citroen HY runs and drives and is ready to be put into service. Full profession kitchen install with Full size European expresso machine on board. Brand new tires Roof vents added Battery, solenoid, wiring and brakes work. Truck hasnt been in operation since pandemic so no currrent permits for health inspections. Seller can arrange shipping to any state in the US. "This a cut and pasted version of an inspection done by a professional custom car builder Good day gentleman, my name is "Vehicle Inspector" and I was contacted by client to do a brief PPI on his Citroen HY van. Since the weather here in northeastern PA was 35* when I arrived at Mr Jones house, the “warm-up” and test drive video were a bit more abbreviated than normal. The first thing that I want to say was how impressive the overall appearance of the truck is for its age. Not just that, but the uniqueness of the truck make is quite the head-turner and conversation piece to every passerby. I arrived at his house, did a cursory look at the inside, outside and underside for anything that blatantly stood out. To my surprise, it’s a very nicely presented vehicle, especially considering it’s age. 1. There were no obvious leaks under the van, inside the wheels or on the engine(exposed with the “dog house” removed”). 2. The body has obviously been repainted at some time, but the unique “beaded” feature of the panels are all intact and straight. The doors both open and shut along with the rear access doors. The front hood(engine access nose piece) latches will need to be lubricated so they work. Both are present just “stuck” at the time of my inspection. It also looks like 2 new roof vents were added to aid in removing heat/odors from the rear service area. 3. The dashboard and all gauges(I assume original) are present. Turn signals work! 4. Tires are all holding air. I checked but there were no DOT codes, so age is unknown. Wheels & tires are functional. The brakes on one of the rear wheels seemed to be hanging up when Client first brought the truck out of the parking area. Once it was driven a few feet, it seemed to free itself up and was fine after the drive around the block(video available). 5. There seemed to be a recent electrical upgrade to both the battery and some of the wiring between the seats. It looks very well done as well(neat and clean wiring). I did not tell Client when I was going to arrive because I wanted to do a true “cold start” on the truck. That wasn’t an issue since it was only 35* degrees when I arrived. Client provided a can of starter fluid but I tried to get it to start by itself. It struggled and need a quick “shot” to come to life. I didn’t allow the truck enough time to warm-up and stalled the motor by applying throttle too early. Upon trying to restart the engine, the starter bendix “kicked out” twice before engaging and restarting the motor(another fluid this time). After that it had some temperature in it and revved freely. Again, I was impressed with the van considering it’s age. The transmission shifts very well and engages reverse with no issues. Clutch works just fine. 6. As far as driving the vehicle, it starts, runs, shifts into all of the gears(drive around the block) and stops. I don’t believe that driving on surface streets to and from a venue would be any issue. 45mph would probably be my threshold after the test drive. 35 should be no issue at all. Since it’s such a “head-turner”, I think going slow thru town and letting everyone see the truck would be more fun than anything. 7. I did take a quick look in the back/service area of the van, but did not check the functionality of any of the equipment. The side service window and tilting/folding service shelf is quite unique. I hope any prospective buyer is under 5’10” tall as the ceiling is. Bit low.
